Kim Kardashian is getting candid about the emotional toll of her divorce from Kanye West, revealing the challenges of ending a marriage when it’s “not really the outcome you want.”
During a recent episode of The Kardashians, Kim, 44, reflected on her split from the rapper while discussing her sister Khloé Kardashian’s emotional reunion with ex-husband Lamar Odom. Khloé, 40, admitted she married Odom too quickly but still considers him “the love of my life,” blaming their split on his struggles with addiction.
Kim, who shares four children with West, related to her sister’s experience. “That’s the hardest part. I’ve been there,” she said. “When you don’t foresee something happening that really changes a person’s personality, and then they’re not the same person, and you can’t ever get that person back, but you can’t live with the new person. I get it.”
In a confessional, Kim delved deeper into the pain of her divorce. “It’s tougher when you don’t want your marriage to end for personal reasons, but circumstances change that force your marriage to end,” she shared. “When you weren’t planning on that, and that’s not really the outcome you want, but there’s no other option, I think it makes it harder to get over.”
Kim and Kanye, who were married for six years before filing for divorce in 2021, faced numerous challenges, including Kanye’s public struggles with bipolar disorder. At the time, Kim requested to be declared legally single, citing the rapper’s social media outbursts as a source of “emotional distress.”
“While I wish our marriage would have succeeded, I have come to the realization that there is no way to repair our marriage,” Kim said in court documents obtained by PEOPLE. “Kanye does not agree, but at least it appears that he has come to the realization that I want to end our marriage, even if he does not.”
Since her divorce, Kim has moved on with her life, dating comedian Pete Davidson for nine months and briefly being linked to NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. However, her reflections on her marriage to Kanye reveal the lasting impact of their relationship.
As Kim put it, sometimes love isn’t enough—especially when “you can’t ever get that person back.”
